新型コロナウイルス感染症の拡大で今年は恒例のチェルシー・フラワーショーも中止になった。でも5月18日（月）から23日（金）までバーチャルで開催、ファンを喜ばせている。1913年に第1回目が行われてからオンラインで行われるのはこれが初。デザイナーによる庭園ツアーや、プロの庭園師による庭造りレッスンなどがオンラインで体験できる。
エリザベス女王は開会を記念して、1949年にショーを訪れた写真を披露。当時23歳、ドットのドレスにトレンチコート姿の女王がお付きの女性に助けてもらいつつ、ヒールで池の飛び石を歩く様子が写っている。

RHSのパトロンを1952年から務めている女王は「私も家族も毎年ショーを訪れるのを楽しみにしていました」「私の祖母メアリー王妃は1916年に初めてショーを訪れました。王妃は、今も多くの人たちが園芸に熱心に取り組んでいること、園芸がイギリスで人気の余暇活動であることを喜んでいるでしょう」とコメントしている。
今年のフラワーショーは、5月18日（月）から24日（土）のメンタルヘルス啓蒙週間と重なる。草花や自然がメンタルヘルスに与える影響は大きい。そのため今年のフラワーショーでは、今の時期に咲く好きな花の写真をハッシュタグ「#MyChelseaGarden」を添えてSNSに投稿し、みんなでフィードを明るくしようと呼びかけている。エリザベス女王も好きな花、スズランの写真をインスタグラムにアップしている。「スズランはエリザベス女王の戴冠式のときのブーケに使われました。それ以来特別な機会のときには女王にスズランのブーケが贈られています」とコメントも。このスズランはバッキンガム宮殿の庭園で撮影されたもの。
